Martha Carruthers, Heritage Consultant

BA Ancient History & Archaeology, Practitioner (PCIfA) Chartered Institute for Archaeologists 

Martha joined AB Heritage in January 2026. Prior to joining the company, she worked as a commercial archaeologist, gaining valuable experience in archaeological fieldwork, research, and the preparation of Site Reports and Written Schemes of Investigation. She holds a BA in Ancient History and Archaeology from the University of Birmingham.

Since joining AB Heritage, Martha has developed strong experience in the preparation of Heritage Statements and Initial Site Heritage & Archaeological Appraisals for a wide variety of projects, ranging from urban developments and residential schemes to proposals affecting Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas. Her work supports clients through the planning process by assessing heritage significance, identifying potential impacts on heritage assets, and providing clear, evidence-based advice in line with national and local planning policy.

Martha is particularly interested in helping clients understand and manage change within the historic environment, ensuring that development proposals are both practical and sensitive to their heritage context.

Outside of work, Martha enjoys visiting historic sites, exploring the countryside, and attending live music events in her hometown of Nottingham.
