Archaeological Fieldworks
Archaeological Fieldworks (survey archaeology) are sometimes the only way to gauge accurately what is going on beneath the ground. Depending on the nature of the site and the development proposals Archaeological Fieldworks can take the form of Geophysical Survey, Archaeological Trench Evaluation, Historic or Archaeological Building Recording and sometimes, Excavation of Remains. Often such works are required as pre-determination actions to inform the Local Authority planning decision, sometimes fieldwork is required as a Planning Condition. Whatever the circumstance, works will always need to be defined and detailed in a Written Scheme of Investigation, which must conform to the latest Standard and Guidance. AB Heritage consultants have many years’ experience in the design and management of Archaeological Fieldworks and some recent case studies can be viewed below. AB Heritage undertakes works in accordance with standards compliant with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists.
