Daniel Dodds, Associate Technical Director
BSc (Hons) Archaeology, MCIfA (Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists), Member of the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle
Dan is AB Heritage’s Technical Lead. Based in the northeast, he manages company operations across the UK – overseeing regional teams, refining internal processes, and ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality heritage services.
With over 30 years’ experience as a professional archaeologist, Dan has worked across both the public and private sectors, in research and commercial settings. This broad background gives him a clear understanding of the planning system’s commercial pressures, along with the practical expertise to help clients balance development objectives with heritage responsibilities.
Dan is instrumental in the design and management of AB Heritage’s archaeology and heritage works on energy infrastructure projects across the UK. Large-scale energy schemes often require Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), which demands a flexible and iterative approach to assessing the cultural heritage resource. Dan ensures that AB Heritage works closely with other technical disciplines to produce robust and accurate Cultural Heritage Environmental Statements (ES). He also prepares and manages sensitive Scheduled Monument Consent works – with recent examples including projects in Marlow, Newcastle upon Tyne, St Albans, Chatham, and Leeds.
His wider project portfolio includes heritage inputs on nationally significant schemes such as the A9 dualling through the Cairngorms National Park and RAF Desborough Solar Park. Dan also advises regularly on complex residential and commercial developments across the UK, applying a pragmatic, evidence-led approach throughout.
In his spare time, Dan enjoys long walks in the hills and along the coast of his native Northumberland and has a passion for natural history.
