Daniel Dodds, Associate Director

Member (MCIfA) Chartered Institute for Archaeologists, BSc (Hons) Archaeology, Member of the Society of Antiquaries, Newcastle Upon Tyne

Dan is AB Heritage’s Technical Lead. Located in the northeast, he manages the operations for AB Heritage across the UK. As such he leads on the management of the heritage consultants, operational processes, and delivery of quality services to clients.

Dan has over 30 years’ experience as a professional archaeologist, gained within both public sector and private organisations; in research and commercial archaeology. This has given him a keen understanding of the commercial pressures of the planning system and a wealth of experience of how to project manage heritage to help clients meet both their commercial goals and heritage responsibilities.

Dan specialises in the design and management of complex programmes of archaeology. His extensive knowledge of what is, and what is not possible on site, allows a broad and strategic approach to works that can make a significant impact to costs and project schedules, particularly where this is achieved before scheme designs are finalised.

Notable examples include the design and management of AB Heritage’s archaeological works on the A9 Road Improvement Scheme through the Cairngorms National Park, on behalf of CFJV and Transport Scotland as well as complex large fieldwork projects for renewable energy schemes in England, including at the former RAF Desborough Airfield. Dan also prepares and manages Scheduled Monument Consent works and these have included projects in Newcastle Upon Tyne, St Albans, and Chatham in Kent. Dan also leads on AB Heritage’s advocacy and expert witness support at planning appeals.

In his spare time Dan enjoys long walks in the hills and along the coast of his native Northumberland and has a passion for natural history.
