AB Heritage Launches Innovative Educational Outreach Initiative to Preserve Cultural Heritage
At AB Heritage Limited, our mission is clear: to preserve and promote cultural heritage, ensuring the historical identities of our communities are safeguarded for future generations. With our latest initiative, we’re taking this mission into the classroom, inspiring the next generation to connect with and appreciate their history.
Introducing AB Heritage Explorers
This April, we took a significant step forward by establishing the role of Education Outreach Manager, appointing Laura Buckley, an education professional with over twenty years of experience, to spearhead this exciting initiative. Laura’s passion and expertise have been pivotal in developing and launching our innovative outreach programme, AB Heritage Explorers.
In the Summer Term, AB Heritage Explorers was met with enthusiasm by participants from across the North-East. The programme offers dynamic workshops and assemblies designed to immerse students in the world of archaeology and cultural heritage. These hands-on learning experiences are crafted to ignite a lifelong interest in history and archaeology among young learners.
Since its launch, Laura has successfully introduced customised sessions to five local schools and community groups, including a hub that supports children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Feedback has been positive. A parent from a home education group shared their appreciation: “Thank you for organising such an interesting activity! My children loved learning about archaeology, and we look forward to joining another session soon.”
Teachers have been equally enthusiastic. A teacher from Seaburn Dene Primary School in Sunderland remarked, “The children were fully engaged throughout the day, particularly enjoying the well-resourced practical activities. Laura’s excellent rapport with the children made the experience relevant, inclusive, and highly engaging.”
Parents have also praised the initiative, with one noting, “We had a fantastic time at the archaeology digs. Laura was so friendly, and the worksheets she provided allowed us to continue learning at home.”
Reflecting on the programme’s success, Laura commented: “I’m thrilled by the overwhelming enthusiasm and positive feedback we’ve received from schools and organisations involved in the launch of the AB Heritage Explorers programme. This initiative is our way of giving back to the community, and the response has shown just how important it is. The sessions have sparked a passion for heritage and the unique methods we use to uncover our past. I can’t wait to bring AB Heritage Explorers to even more children in the coming academic year!”
