Alex Farnell, Senior Heritage Consultant
Sector: Heritage Assessment
Alex has recently joined AB Heritage as Senior Heritage Consultant. He comes with a wealth of knowledge from 18 years working in commercial archaeology and has experience in a full range of archaeology and heritage work.
He began his archaeological career on English Heritage training excavations and from there had the good fortune to work on a number of exciting town centre redevelopment sites in Colchester, Cambridge and Oxford.
Alex moved to Exeter in 2005 to work on excavations taking place during an extensive city centre redevelopment and has been living and working in the area ever since. Thirteen years on, he has an extensive portfolio of projects completed under his direction, and a bibliography of reports and publications of which he is extremely proud.
Career highlights have been the excavation of the Seaton Down Hoard (available to view in Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum!) the exhumation of 300 Royal Naval burials in Plymouth and major urban excavations inside Exeter’s Roman Legionary Fortress.
Alex lives in Exeter with his wife and two young children. In his spare time he enjoys running, swimming from Devon’s many beaches and learning to play the guitar.
