Early risk assessment ...

AB Heritage was commissioned by Alumno Miller Camberwell Ltd, in advance of the proposed redevelopment, to produce a Cultural Heritage Desk-Based Assessment covering the buildings owned by Southwark Council along Peckham Road.

Historic buildings, conservation and multiple stakeholders...

The site was a complex one of multiple listed buildings and in a conservation area, but AB Heritage’s below ground assessment quickly confirmed that there were no known archaeological remains within the site and a low potential for the recovery of currently unknown archaeological material, due to the 18C development works that had taken place.

AB Heritage presented these findings to the Southwark Council Planning Archaeologist, reaching an agreement that archaeological issues could be scoped out as a material concern.

This allowed attention to move swiftly to mitigating potential adverse impacts on the above ground heritage assets.

As the project progressed, AB Heritage ensured that the requirements of all stakeholders Alumno Development, the Southwark Council Planning & Conservation Teams, as well as English Heritage and the Georgian Group were taken into account, properly understood and managed.

“Our focus on open communication to develop a solution, led AB Heritage to create and manage a programme of Level II Historic Building Recording on the buildings within the site, ensuring the project satisfied all conditions placed on the works by the LPA. Early intervention meant we could protect the historic value of the site and ensure the project finished without additional costs and delays.” said Andy Buckley, Managing Director of AB Heritage.
